Aeroflot Cargo - information about carrier

CJSC "Aeroflot-Cargo" (Russian: Аэрофлот-Карго) was a completely owned subsidiary of Aeroflot, established in 1995. It was the second-largest freight airline in Russia, behind Volga-Dnepr subsidiary AirBridge Cargo. In June 2009 the investors of Russia's flagship air provider, Aeroflot, chose to declare the company's cargo subsidiary, Aeroflot Cargo, insolvent.

The freight department of Aeroflot now operates as part of the airline company's regular fleet rather of a subsidiary. On May 11, 2011, Aeroflot Russian Airlines completed preparations for joining the global airline company alliance SkyTeam Cargo. They will be the 9th member of the alliance.

Till December 2009, Aeroflot-Cargo operated routine cargo-carrying flights from Europe to Asia and back by means of Russia. In addition to freight flights, Aeroflot-Cargo was responsible for so-called 'tummy freight' carried in the holds of mainline Aeroflot aircraft.

In 2008, the business carried a total of 150304 loads of cargo and mail. For the first half of 2009, 53139 lots of freight and mail were transferred, 34406 loads of which on Aeroflot guest airplane, meanwhile the number of pure cargo airplane dropped from six in 2008 to 3 in 2009, as a result of the financial crisis. According to 'the publication "Aviation Market" No. 14'2009', Aeroflot-Cargo was the leader of the Russian market for the transport of goods on domestic paths with a 35% share in the air cargo between Europe and Asia.

On April 5, 2010, the company was declared bankrupt and insolvency procedures were presented, airplane returning to lessors and a general wind-down of operations.
