About Colissimo
Colissimo is a French postal service and parcel delivery company created in the 19th century under Napoleon III. It was originally meant to be an express mail, but now it offers various services such as transport of parcels (small packages), envelopes, and documents; collection boxes for mailing or deliveries; secure payment options like cash on delivery (COD) or guaranteed funds transfer (GTF); etc.
The Colissimo company has evolved over the years, but its main focus still lies in providing express delivery service. It all began back in 1817 when Napoleon I came up with the idea of opening a new postal service for delivering mail between Paris and Lyon (France's two largest cities at that time). Fourteen years later Mail Coach Service was introduced by another emperor - this time it was Louis-Philippe who wanted to upgrade his predecessor's idea. The aim was to provide better speed and reliability than ever before so he decided to hire young men on bicycles!
It didn't take long until horses were replaced by automobiles, which made deliveries even faster; trucks followed them not much after that. During World War II Colissimo services also had to face a lot of hardships. The company was told by the government to stop all activities and focus on delivering parcels from soldiers' families, but after being given back its independence it got back on track as soon as possible.
In 1999 Colissimo launched an online store that is now known as La Boutique du Transporteur. In 2000 another service - Click&Coli - was introduced for those who want their deliveries brought straight to their doorsteps with no need to be present at home during delivery time.
