Gambia Post - information about carrier
The Gambia Postal Solutions Corporation or GAMPOST is the company accountable for postal service in The Gambia.
The origins of the Department of Posts returns to 1858 when the British Colonial Government set up the postal service in The Gambia.
The nationwide domestic service started with the ship called the "Prince of Wales" which started its domestic shipments from Banjul ports in 1922 plying to up-river villages. In 1976 the current Department of Posts was established.
The company offers a variety of mail services, generally in the delivery of packets, letters, and parcels. Note that any item that weighs more than 2 Kg is considered a parcel, and anything weighing less than that is letter-size.
The corporation has a legal monopoly on the handling of letter-size items. No entity besides the GPSC is allowed to handle the delivery of products less than 2 Kg both within The Gambia, and sending products globally.
Registered Head Office remains in the capital Banjul, 3 Liberation Avenue. Postal service branches are also in Serrekunda, Bakau, Brikama, Soma, Farafenni, Kerewan, Kaur, Janganbureh, Basse, Wassu, Brusubi, Bwiam and at the Banjul International Airport.
GAMPOST belongs to the Universal Postal Union and the Pan-African Postal Union, who are setting the rules for global mail exchanges.
