Norfolk Post - information about carrier
Norfolk Post ran within the Postal Solutions Act 1983 and was accountable for the receipt and delivery of mail to and from Norfolk.
The service began in 1947 when the island assumed full control over postal services.
The branch had an Administrative Officer, Senior Postal Officer and 3 Customer Service Representatives- one of who was shared with the Philatelic Bureau.
The first stamps from Norfolk Island were issued in 1947 (Scott 1-12), and the last one on June 7, 2016.
There were 2 running units of the Postal Service:
- Norfolk Island Philatelic Bureau
- Norfolk Post
The Post Office was divided into three areas:
- Administrative (This location was responsible for the accounting and administrative functions of the branch).
- Retail (This location was accountable for retail counter sales, stationery, stamp and restocking sales).
- Mail Processing (This area was responsible for inwards and outwards mail processing).
As of 1 July 2016, Norfolk Island became a local council of the Australian State of New South Wales therefore, stopping having its own postal service and postage stamps.
Australian stamps are now valid on the island, and Australia Post will provide separate stamps with a "Norfolk Island, Australia" engraving, similar to its stamps for the Australian Antarctic Territory, Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
