The National Post Workplace (French: Office national des postes, Kinyarwanda: iPosita Rwanda) is the company responsible for the postal service in Rwanda. As of 2009, the Director-General of National Post Workplace was Celestin Kayitare.
Rwanda is part of the Universal Postal Union, which advises a maximum of 9,000 individuals per post workplace branch. As of 2009, Rwanda's population is around 10 million and would need 1,111 post office branches to meet this recommendation. As of 2009, Rwanda had nineteen post workplace branches.
During April 2010, the Office National des Postes announced, through the Universal Postal Union, that several fraudulent issues of stamps were distributing.
The first Post office in Rwanda opened its doors on 18th September 1922 in Kigali. At that time, the Postal Administration of Rwanda was combined to the Belgian Congo one and the Headquarters remained in LEOPOLDVILLE, the capital city of the Belgian Congo (now Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo Capital City).
This circumstance remained the very same until the duration of self-reliance of Rwanda, which ushered in the Ministry of Information, Posts and Telecommunications on 26th October 1961 Until the independence of Rwanda, the Post Office was administered by colonial guideline. By the Brussels Protocol on March 31, 1962, the Belgian government decided to liquify the entity formerly understood under the name of "Post of Ruanda-Urundi" and dedicated the Rwandan Post as an autonomous entity from April 1, 1962.
