Swiss World Cargo - information about carrier
Swiss International Air Lines AG, commonly referred to as Swiss or Swiss Air Lines, is the flag carrier of Switzerland, operating arranged services in Europe and to North America, South America, Africa and Asia. The brand-new airline company was constructed around what had actually been Swissair's regional subsidiary, Crossair. Swiss keeps Crossair's IATA code LX.
Swiss was formed after the 2002 insolvency of Swissair, Switzerland's previous flag provider. 40% of Crossair's earnings came from Swissair. The brand-new airline company lost US$ 1.6 billion from 2002 to 2005. Swissair's biggest lenders, Credit Suisse and UBS, sold part of Swissair's possessions to Crossair, which had been Swissair's regional equivalent. At the time, both Swissair and Crossair belonged to the same holding company, SAirGroup. Crossair later on altered its name to Swiss International Air Lines, and the new nationwide airline company officially started operations on 31 March 2002.
The airline company was initially owned by institutional financiers (61.3%), the Swiss Confederation (20.3%), communities and cantons (12.2%) and others (6.2%). Swiss likewise owns subsidiaries Swiss Sun (100%) and Crossair Europe (99.9%). It has a total of 7,383 staff members. On 22 March 2005, Lufthansa Group verified its plan to take over Swiss, beginning with a minority stake (11%) of a brand-new business established to hold Swiss shares called Air Trust. Swiss operations were gradually incorporated with Lufthansa's from late 2005, and the takeover was completed on 1 July 2007.
Swiss signed up with Star Alliance and became a member of Lufthansa's Miles and More regular flyer program on 1 April 2006. The airline company set up a local airline subsidiary called Swiss European Air Lines. The carrier had its own air operator's certificate. 2 divisions - Swiss Aviation Training and Swiss WorldCargo (using the stomach capability of guest planes) - are also owned by Swiss. Swiss European Air Lines (later relabelled Swiss Global Air Lines) has since stopped operations and combined with its parent, Swiss. In 2008, Swiss International Air Lines obtained Edelweiss Air and Servair - later renamed Swiss Private Aviation. In February 2011, Swiss Private Aviation ceased operations as an outcome of restructuring. The company recommended using Lufthansa Private Jet Service rather.
Following Lufthansa Group's takeover, the local fleet was altered from Crossair's Embraer ERJs and Saabs to Avro RJs, which were zipped a wholly-owned subsidiary, Swiss Global Air Lines. The rest of the fleet was rationalized and now generally consists of Airbus airplane, apart from the Boeing 777. Swiss also renegotiated its supplier contracts, including ground handling, maintenance, food service, and labor. Swiss shareholders got a performance-based alternative for their shares. Payment remained in 2008, and the quantity depended on how well Lufthansa's shares compared to competitors' shares. Lufthansa continues to maintain Swiss as a separate brand name.
On 18 August 2011, Swiss introduced a new company logo that looked like the logo design of the defunct Swissair. Swiss WorldCargo is the air freight division of Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS). As a trustworthy and innovative service company within the Lufthansa Group, Swiss WorldCargo is devoted to consistently providing 'SWISS quality' to its airfreight customers.
